Sleep Paralysis: A Glitch in the Brain or a Gateway to the Unknown?
Sleep paralysis has long been intertwined with supernatural beliefs across cultures. Folklore often describes it as encounters with ghosts, demons, or spirits. Some believe it’s a form of astral projection or even a gateway to lucid dreaming. Science, however, takes a more grounded view, explaining it as a temporary disconnect between the brain and body during the sleep-wake cycle.
For years, I experienced sleep paralysis almost monthly. The first time it happened, I was absolutely terrified. I was lying in bed when I suddenly heard my bedroom door creak open. Footsteps rushed toward me, and then—something jumped on top of me. My heart pounded in my chest, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t even breathe. The paralysis lasted for what felt like an eternity—though in reality, it was likely just 15–20 seconds. When it finally passed, I bolted upright, shaken to my core.
The first eight to ten episodes were just as terrifying. Each time, I was trapped in my own body, unable to move while an unseen force loomed over me. Eventually, I learned to remain calm, silently repeating positive mantras in my head. This seemed to help lessen the fear and intensity of the episodes.
But then, one experience made me question everything.
One night, just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard a low, guttural voice whisper, “Go away.” My entire body froze. I felt a heavy, presence in the room. I was too afraid to move, lying there for hours in a state of fear. Eventually, exhaustion won, and I started slipping back into sleep—only to be jolted awake as the presence jumped on me. Another episode of sleep paralysis.
After experiencing something like this, the scientific explanation alone feels… inadequate.
Over time, my sleep paralysis episodes became less intense. I believe this was due to the deep healing work I did with energy healers. The experiences stopped completely after a healer worked on clearing my ancestral lineage and removing hundreds of subconscious identities that had formed over my lifetime. This process was transformative, and I plan to share more about it in future posts. I highly recommend working with an energy healer if you have this problem.
One additional resource that helped me was the book Heal Your Home by Adrian Incledon-Webber. It explores how energy imbalances in our homes can affect our well-being—including sleep disturbances like sleep paralysis. If you’re struggling with this, I highly recommend checking it out.
Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis, also known as Old Hag Syndrome?
